SISS supplies CCTV Systems for Indian Metro Operator
STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions has been contracted by Bombardier Transportation India (now: ALSTOM India) to supply Mobile Video Systems for 201 metro coaches of the operator Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC).
The CCTV system in the metro includes a variety of cameras strategically installed in different areas, including cabin, interior, front and rear views, as well as special surveillance cameras for the track bed areas.
The architecture of the video system is flexible and can be scaled according to project requirements. The 3-car train unit consists of two recorders that record images from the cameras used with 50/50 redundancy to ensure reliable evidence in the event of incidents or irregularities, even if one recorder is not in operation.
Each train unit is equipped with 12 interior minidome cameras for the passenger compartments, four interior minidome cameras for the driver's cabins and two cube cameras for the front view in the interior area. Four exterior cameras with heating function enable the rear view and two 3rd rail cameras record the track bed area. All cameras are supplied with power via PoE (Power over Ethernet). The heaters of the outdoor cameras are operated by the train with 110VDC.
The system is designed so that the video data is only stored on the removable storage media of the recorders for a preconfigured time. The recordings are regularly overwritten on removable storage media (depending on the configuration) according to the FIFO principle; this means that the oldest video data is replaced by the newest in order to always have the latest recordings available. The storage media uses solid-state drives, or SSD's for short, whose capacity can be increased by adding more SSD's if required, without the need to physically change the storage media or the NVR itself.
This project is the first of two orders from ALSTOM India for Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India with over 200 million inhabitants. By using state-of-the-art CCTV components, SISS is making a significant contribution to not only implementing but also continuously improving safety standards in Indian metro transportation in this region.
