Communication System for BMW Security Center
In October 2023, STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions was commissioned to install the Control Center Communication System in the security headquarters of FIZ Nord – BMW’s Research and Innovation Center in Munich. The system was put into live operation in September 2024.
In 2020, the BMW Group expanded its space for research and development by opening the FIZ Nord project building on the site of the Research and Innovation Center, which has been in operation since 1986. FIZ Nord is home to 100 new testing facilities and 200 laboratories, and together with the two associated office complexes, it provides workspace for approximately 4,800 vehicle developers. The FIZ Nord is regarded as a flagship for Germany’s research landscape and a driving force in the transformation of automotive development.
The security headquarters at FIZ Nord encompasses both plant security and the facility’s in-house fire department. It was equipped with a complete control center system, consisting of 8 fixed and 2 mobile workstations. In addition, a connection to the Sepura TETRA plant radio system was established.
The general contractor for this project is Hexagon, which is responsible for the operations control system itself. Hexagon commissioned SISS to implement the communication system – meaning that all internal emergency calls, communications with the plant fire department, and similar services are handled via the NGS3600 system from SISS.
A 10-year maintenance contract has also already been concluded.
SISS also received a follow-up order in September 2024: The communication system for the BMW plant in Debrecen, Hungary.
In addition to these two projects, further contracts with BMW are in prospect, such as the Hams Hall plant near Birmingham, England.
