Intelligent construction site system for the Hartlepool Segment Factory
The Hartlepool Segment Factory was built on a 45,000 m² site of a former oil drilling equipment production facility and is considered the most advanced factory worldwide for prefabricated concrete segments. SISS was commissioned to provide the video surveillance and recording system, as well as the Wi-Fi infrastructure throughout the entire plant site.
The location of the production facility near the Hartlepool Docks offers excellent transport connections – not only by road, but also by ship and rail. This enables a sustainable transport solution for the more than 83,000 tunnel segments required for the HS2 project – Britain’s largest rail infrastructure project – and helps to avoid approximately 56,000 truck journeys. At the same time, the Hartlepool Segment Factory is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing production to be adapted for future STRABAG projects.
By repurposing and renovating existing infrastructure, transferring transport routes to rail and offering the option of using the factory for other purposes in the future, the project was carried out with the utmost consideration for environmental impact.
