Graz-Köflacher Bahn - Communication System and Control Center

The Graz-Köflacher Bahn (GKB for short) operates 39 bus and 3 rail lines with a length of over 90 kilometers in the greater Graz area as well as southern and western Styria. As part of the overall project, STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions installed an operational and future-proof communication system based on DMR Tier III.

Two geo-redundantly installed controllers ensure the reliable control of the DMR system, which covers the entire rail network, including two tunnels, with 15 locations. In addition to communication between the train control center and the railcars, the shunting system also uses the new digital radio system.

For networking all sites with the central components and the control center, the GKB's internally operated and secured fiber-optic network is utilized.

In addition to the train radio devices specially adapted for operational requirements, the train control center was equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The NGS3600 serves as the communication management system, integrating the digital radio network, the ÖBB GSM-R train radio and telephony. The dispatcher applications of the workstations enable a safe and easy operation of the entire system.
