Graz-Köflacher Bahn - Communication System and Control Center
The Graz-Köflacher Bahn (GKB for short) operates 39 bus and 3 rail lines with a length of over 90 kilometers in the greater Graz area as well as southern and western Styria. As part of the overall project, STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions installed an operational and future-proof communication system based on DMR Tier III.

Digital communication system for two railway lines
- DMR Tier III trunked radio network in a simulacast network, equipped with emergency power supply
- 15 radio cells, each with 10 logical channels
- Geo-redundant central controller units at two locations
- Use of the GKB fiber optic network or a directional radio link connection to network external locations
- Integration of two railway tunnels using SISS repeater systems and radiating cable
- DMR train radios with specific adaptations for operational use
Train control centers in Graz and Lieboch (each with two locations) as well as Wies and Köflach
- VoIP communication management system NGS3600 with redundant system structure
- Central geodata and train number server
- Connection of telephony, DMR Tier III trunked radio network and the Austrian Federal Railway's GSM-R network
- Integrated fault reporting and network management system for the DMR network and the NGS3600
- Redundant voice recording system
- 9 workstations with IP audio matrix CDI3603 and touch panel operation for dispatcher applications, including a modular dispatcher console with tilt adjustment
- Train number server for functions mapping the operational workflow
