Netz Niederösterreich - Grid Control Center Communication System
A cross-media Grid Control Center is operated in Maria Enzersdorf to ensure a comprehensive energy supply throughout the entire supply area of Netz Niederösterreich GmbH, which controls and monitors all essential facilities for energy generation and distribution in the Federal State of Lower Austria. STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions was commissioned with the construction of this Grid Control Center.
Tasks of the Grid Control Center
The tasks of the cross-media grid control center require not only equipment for remote control and remote monitoring of technical systems, but also an efficient and customized telecommunications solution. This is particularly important for the implementation of complex switching operations and the rapid rectification and coordination of faults (e.g. due to weather conditions) in the client's energy supply networks. In such cases, communication links must be quickly established between all relevant parties and personnel. Key actors in these situations include, among others, the interconnected control center, the gas emergency service, the crisis team, as well as other network operators, producers, and customers.
Technical details of the Grid Control Center
The grid control center consists of the geo-redundant NGS3600 core system implemented on highly available servers, which ensures stable and reliable communication. It comprises 17 dispatcher workstations equipped with the latest generation of innovative and flexible operating applications and is spread across two locations. In addition, two emergency workstations are available to expand capacity in the event of major incidents. A voice recording system ensures short-term recording of calls for control room staff and long-term archiving so that they can be retrieved at a later date.
The session border controller ensures the secure and efficient management of communication connections. Gateways are used to connect to various means of communication (either analog, ISDN or SIP). In addition, the company radio and SCADA systems are connected to ensure a seamless exchange of information. An info panel visualizes relevant data such as pending calls, their duration and many other details on large-screen monitors. An IP public address system for the acoustic transmission of information completes the overall system.
