Renewal of the operating radio system of the Kitzbühel "KitzSki" mountain railroad
Kitzbühel and skiing – a legendary combination. The ski area operated by Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel covers 233 verified kilometers of slopes and includes 57 cable cars and lift systems – stretching from the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbühel to the Resterkogel at Pass Thurn.
In 2021, STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions GmbH was awarded the contract to fundamentally modernize the operational radio system of "KitzSki".
- A comprehensive DMR Tier II operational radio system with five fully equipped DMR radio stations and two remote radio stations connected via fiber optics
- The radio system was implemented using Motorola™ Mototrbo SLR5500 DMR repeaters, distributed across two IP Site Connect systems.
- For communication with rescue helicopters, two analog single-frequency radio systems based on LDI3300 and Motorola SLR5500 were established, and a gateway device was installed to link the analog single-frequency system to the DMR radio system.
- A radio dispatcher server with 6 clients was installed for locating the radios of the ski patrol service.
- The dispatcher offers extensive network management functions and an interface for the network management system of "KitzSki"
- Around 260 radios for lifts, cable cars, piste machines, ski patrol, and operations management.
- Man-down function for selected radios to protect lone workers
- GPS positioning for selected radios to transmit location data to the ski patrol control centers.
The standard radios were configured to allow unrestricted communication within their respective groups throughout the ski area. They automatically connect to the best available radio station. Additionally, by simply switching to the "wide-area group" channel, communication with all radios across the entire ski area is possible.
Specialized radios were used for piste rescue and operations management. These radios are programmed so that the desired ski area and corresponding channels can be selected directly on the device by switching between “zones". This ensures seamless communication throughout the entire ski region.
