Tunnel radio systems for "Stuttgart 21"

In January 2021, STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions was commissioned to deliver and commission the radio system technology for Deutsche Bahn's major project "Stuttgart 21".

Back in 2016, SISS Germany participated as a subcontractor of DB Bahnbau Gruppe in the pre-qualification competition for the Stuttgart 21 tunnel radio project. In addition to the new valley crossing with the main station, 16 new tunnels and passages with a total length of 33 km are being constructed over a total length of 57 km around Stuttgart, alongside the renovation of numerous existing tunnels.

Stuttgart 21 will not only relieve regional and suburban rail traffic but, in combination with the new Wendlingen-Ulm line as part of the European Magistrale, will also improve passenger and freight transport between Paris and Budapest.

The scale of the project, as well as the constantly changing project conditions, led to an unforeseeable and unusually long tendering process. At the end of 2020, SISS was finally awarded the major contract for the BOS radio system technology for the two construction packages Talkessel (Lot 1) and Filderbereich (Lot 2).
