Mobile Video Systems from SISS for 246 Trains
In spring 2023, STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions secured the contract for the Stadler's CITYLINK TramTrain project.
In early 2022, the Swiss rail vehicle manufacturer Stadler received the largest order in its company history, valued at up to 4 billion euros. Stadler will manufacture a total of 246 of these tram-trains, with an option for the involved railway operators to order an additional 258 units.
SISS, which had already successfully implemented numerous international projects with Stadler, was selected to supply CCTV components for this large-scale CITYLINK TramTrain project.
Over a total period of nine years, Stadler Valencia will produce tram-trains for public transportation companies as part of a German-Austrian cooperation, including firms from Saarbrücken, Neckar-Alb, Karlsruhe, Upper Austria, and Salzburg.
Tram-trains are fast streetcars that can also be used as regional trains. They are based on the Stadler "CITYLINK" model, capable of reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h on main lines. Passengers no longer need to transfer at stations because tram-trains serve as both trains and streetcars in one vehicle.
One key requirement for the CCTV system in this project is that all mirror cameras meet the safety level "SIL2." The Safety Integrity Level (SIL) is a procedure used to assess the potential risk to people, systems, devices, and processes in case of a malfunction.
Additional requirements include that the mirror cameras must operate without restrictions during winter conditions, necessitating features such as heating, anti-fogging protection, and de-icing capabilities.
