Integrated Safety Control Center - Volkswagen AG, Wolfsburg Plant

With a total area of 6.5 km², Volkswagen AG's Wolfsburg plant is one of the largest factories in the world. More than 60,000 employees work at the plant site, which has a road network of 75 km. STRABAG Infrastructure & Safety Solutions was commissioned with the construction of the new Integrated Safety Control Center.

All safety-relevant information and hazard reports as well as emergency calls (e.g. 555, emergency fax, elevator) converge in the new control center and are processed and escalated by this central facility.

The control center management system integrates all existing subsystems via a user-friendly graphical user interface. This ensures uniform event processing by the control center dispatcher, regardless of the event and subsystem.

Details of the implemented overall system

  • NGS3600 VoIP communication management system in redundant version on virtualized ESX cluster
  • System and network management
  • Interfaces to the computer aided dispatch system
  • Integration of the existing TETRA radio
  • 10 workstations with different levels of equipment

The highly integrated overall system is based on state-of-the-art technology and is easily scalable. The future-oriented technologies enable efficient expansion, predictable and secure integration of new technologies and the combination of several control centers.
