Imagine you’re driving to work, visiting family, or heading out to meet friends. Lost in thoughts, you're cruising along the motorway when an overhead traffic sign lights up, warning of a traffic jam ahead. Digital speed displays reduce the speed limit to 60 km/h, and you slow down accordingly.
Shortly afterwards, you notice a sign warning you that a tunnel is closed. At the same time, a radio announcement confirms what you’ve just read: an accident has occurred in the tunnel ahead and it has been closed to traffic. Thanks to video-based traffic and incident monitoring, the accident was quickly detected by the tunnel control center and emergency services were alerted immediately.
Subsequently, the accident was reported to radio stations to proactively warn drivers and provide them with relevant information. They learn that several vehicles have collided and now need to be towed away. Fortunately, no one was injured. The delay lasts for about an hour – so you arrive at your destination later than planned, but safely.
